Nine happy hours of work went into this little bit of Hope. I stayed up late to finish the top because I Just. Could. Not. Stop.I love projects that are like that. The loving it too much to quit projects. I watched an odd Irish? movie called Ondine while quilting it. The actors talked so low we kept having to go back to figure out what they said. Then watched a British comedy called The IT Crowd while binding it - and laughed! It reminded me of Big Bang Theory. Color Me Hopeful was a joy to work on & it wil be a joy to pass on to someone who could use a bit of Hope in their life.
Hope in the shop07/18/2012 I don't often promote items for sale in my shop here on the blog. I like to talk about other stuff too much! But, every once in a while you have to say a little something & pray for a sale or two to help pay down the credit card, ya know? So today, I'm gonna share with you the newest item in my shop - the Color Me Hopeful mini quilt! I've been so inspired by the other Hope quilts that I thought I might make a series of them for the shop. I made this one a touch bigger than the small original - 18x 26 inches. I machine pieced it, and then hand quilted it in matching colors around each of the letters. I also hand bound it in Kona Espresso so it would have a nice 'framed' look. I made several new Cup Cuffs for the shop; & I have several still in progress. Sometimes it takes a break away from something to spur a renewed energy for the creation of more. I dug out the box of ties & have been enjoying mixing color & texture & playing in the button box as I go. I also realized yesterday they we were out of cookies in the doggie jar. I got a free Kindle book a couple of weeks ago called The Everything Cooking For Dogs Book, & decided to try a couple recipes in it to restock the cookies. I made Peanut Butter & Cranberry Biscotti & then tried Oatmeal Pumpkin Biscuits - both tweaked to fit what I had on hand. For instance, in the book the biscotti has carob ships instead of cranberries. I think my pups are sure they are getting table scraps or something when I bake them cookies. They dance & mummble & get awfully excited. It didn't hurt that the whole house smelled like peanut butter. I mean really? Yum! If it had had sugar in it I might have eaten a few! Instead, I baked a few peppermint chocolate chip cookies for the humans in my house too. It was a good day. :) 1 Comment In my exuberant 300+ photo ordering a couple of weeks ago I didn't really think about what I'd do with all those printed pictures once I got them in my hot little hands. I mean, Yes, I had to use lots for my Week In The Life project (photos of the completed album coming to a blog near you soon) & I will make pages with other photos...but...well...some I just felt needed to be postcards! I've added some of these friendly little christian themed cards to the shop this week. And, will add the others soon...just in case there's someone in your life you need to share an encouraging word with...or a recipe...or an announcement...or an invite...or a joke...or a short story...or...well...you know...whatever. :) Roadtrip Knitting05/14/2011 While I was away I was definately not idle! With two knitting projects at the ready when I hit the road, I made sure I had plenty to do. I totally completed one shawl & got 90% of another done that I finished up once I got home. The first one off the needles was just a simple garter stitch shawl done in Homespun, the colorway is Ocean. This is the second shawl I knit with this yarn & really enjoy how soft and silky it feels. It doesn't need a fancy pattern, simplicity really shows off the variations and texture of the yarn its self. This shawl is the first of a long line of handmade Christmas gifts to get created this year & I'm so very happy with the result! The second shawl I completed is the For All Reasons shawl from Debbie Macomber's Friendship Shawls. I called mine 'An Ocean Of Reasons' due to the blue & white colorway of the classic brushed yarn I used. I enjoyed knitting it up because the yarn was so cushy & spongy feeling. It knit as quickly as the simple garter stitch & came out pretty great. I think of it as a tee shirt & jeans shawl - cozy, comforting & casual. I used a little bit larger needle size so that it wouldn't feel too bulky & thick, & I'm so glad it worked out to be a really nice Spring weather kind of weight. I decided as I blocked it to put it in the shop. I hope someone will love wearing it as much as I loved creating it. Now that I've gotten my two big projects off the needles I've got to gather up a new something to cast on! :) Since I am going to be out all day tomorrow I thought I would go ahead & write the post I had planned... It has been an exceptionally good week to be getting mail around here & I thought I would share a few of the goodies that I was all too excited to receive. I won a little something wonderful from Scrappy Gifts! See that adorable little box there on the left? It's a scrappy box! Look what's inside! You'll have to imagine it with photos for right now as I haven't gathered all my favorite family photos to put in it just yet. I plan to do that soon. I think it is just so cute & fun sitting on the mantle for now. I have a weakness for unique mini-book scrapbook kinds of gifts & I can honestly say Maryanne made my little heart go pitter pat when I opened the shipping box and saw this inside! I am sure it will be a family treasure for years to come. If you'd like a scrappy box of your own, or one to send as a gift you can get them here. You can even have them laminated to make them nice and durable for little hands! Then, I received three little maids! You can see the lovely ladies hanging there on the bottom of my old-typeset-drawer-turned-art... When I found out Gretchen over at June At Noon was selling a few of the extra Matryoshkas she wrote about here I headed straight to her shop & snapped some up! These little ladies are filled with a bit of lavender (helps keep me calm & relaxed as I work) & they keep me company hanging out above my cutting table. They also brought with them a few pinups... No, not THOSE pinups! These pinups are a beautiful set of art prints of Gretchen's gorgeous beaded sewing pins. They are framed & hanging next to my typeset-drawer-art to inspire me as I work. I just love the colors & extravagance of those lovely pins! By the way - you can buy both greeting cards of these art prints AND a set of actual beaded sewing pins (along with Gretchen's extraordinary handwork & patterns) in the shop too! But wait! There's more! Ok- just one more thing... Last but most definately not least... I got a hand-painted silk tie from Julie's Silk n Style Shop! In honor of full disclosure I actually won this tie from Julie's Facebook page. She posts some photos of her seconds & if you are the first to comment then you receive a stunning tie which Julie thought was not quite up to par for selling in her shop. This is actually the second tie I've won that way & I just have to tell you - Julie is crazy! Seriously. She's wonderful! but. She's crazy! The ties are so stunning as seconds I can't even begin to think how fantastic the ones in her shop are. If money had been - well, in all honesty - more than it was this year I'd have gone over & just bought ties from her shop. And, a hand-painted scarf or two...or three..just for me. :) I love her work! However, since we are going low budget with gifts this year God really blessed us when Julie listed her seconds. I have a Youth Minister family member who wears ties every Sunday & in 2011 he'll be sporting a couple of Julie's handiwork! (um, J - if you happen to read this blog pretend you didn't just read that part - k? k.) Alrighty! I know sometimes it really isn't all that exciting to talk about mail, but I hope you enjoyed a peek at a few things that just made my week & rocked my socks. :) It is not hard to find talented people on the internet. It can, however, be hard to know what kind of person those talented people are. I feel pretty blessed to have *met* some amazingly lovely people - & equally blessed to be able to share them with you! Do you know a few wonderful, talented people you'd like me & everyone else to *meet*? Leave their links in the comments for us all to enjoy! |
